(BNP Communication): Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson and former PM Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia on Tuesday said no election would be allowed to be held keeping the BNP outside.
She said the government was planning to hold election arresting all senior leaders of the BNP and branding the incumbent government an unelected one she also said that no election could be held keeping it in office.
The BNP chief also called on police not to arrest and harass BNP activists saying that there is no conflict between police and BNP.
Khaleda was speaking at a rally of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal-JCD at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh marking its 39th founding anniversary.
After an hour-long sit in at the Engineers Institute, the Chhatra Dal began its scheduled rally inside the institution’s auditorium as the authorities finally opened the auditorium in honour of Khaleda Zia.
The auditorium was opened after 5:30pm and the BNP’s student affairs secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anny asked the activists to hold the programme peacefully.
Reaching the venue in the afternoon, Begum Zia joined the sit in demonstration at the engineers institute premises along with leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal protesting the obstruction to holding the rally.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the beginning of the sit in at around 4:50pm.
Earlier the Chhatra Dal continued its rally at the premises of the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh to mark the organisation’s founding anniversary ignoring the objection of the Special Security Force.
Senior leaders of the BNP started coming to the venue since 2:00pm and the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia also left her Gulshan home for attending the programme.
Chhatra Dal leaders reaching the venue in the morning for necessary preparations found that the main gate of the institution was locked and they were informed that the Special Security Force raised objection to the programme at the institution as president Abdul Hamid would attend a function at Supreme Court adjacent to the IEB in the afternoon.
Since noon the activists began to gather near the venue and Chhatra Dal leaders decided to continue the porgramme at the Engineer Institute premises as the auditorium was locked up.
