(BNP Communication) —  Today is historic 7th November – National Revolution and Solidarity Day. On this day in 1975, amid deep political turmoil, people and troops from the army, navy, air force, police and ansar overthrew the then usurper and freed the hero of the War of Independence and then army chief, Major General Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam, who was held captive in Dhaka Cantonment since November 3.

The revolution brought General Zia to the helm of the state apparatus as the chief defender of the nation’s independence and sovereignty and rights of the people, to establish discipline and rule of law and restore normalcy in all spheres of national life.

This morning BNP chairperson and former PM Begum Khaleda Zia together with party leaders and activists placed floral wreaths at the grave of hero of 7th November and party architect   Ziaur Rahman.  All the units and associate bodies of the BNP will also observe the day across the country with various programmes, including discussions, photo exhibitions, free medical camps and blood donation.

Meanwhile, Begum Zia in a message greeted the nation on the occasion.

Describing November 7 as a ‘historical day’ in national history, she said, “On this day in 1975, soldiers and civilians took to the streets together with a strong vow to protect the national independence and sovereignty and foil all conspiracies against the country.”

The spirit of November 7 continues to be an inspiration in national life she said, adding, “I think it’s necessary for the nationalist forces to get united imbued with this spirit.”

In another message, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also congratulated the people on the occasion of this momentous day.
