Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Tuesday announced programs to observe the party’s 38th founding anniversary.
The party secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, at a news briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan central office in the afternoon announced the schedule of programs.
Earlier, before the press conference, the first joint meeting of office bearers and assistant office bearers of the new national executive committee of the BNP and presidents and general secretaries of the party’s front and associate organizations chalked out the programs and discussed different national issues.
Mirza Alamgir who presided over the meeting said they discussed what program they would take against the conspiracy to destroy the Sunderbans by installing a coal-fired thermal power plant at Rampal, the move to increase price of gas, and against the menace of extremism.
He said the programs for these issues would be announced later.
Founding day programs
A discussion will be held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in the capital at 2:00pm on August 31 to mark the founding anniversary of the party.
A public meeting will be held at Suhrawardy Uddyan in the capital or bring out procession either on September 1 or September 2. Mirza Alamgir said the party would submit application to the authorities concerned seeking permission for the venue to hold the program.
Hoisting party flag
The party flag would be hoisted at 6:00am on September 1 at the party’s central office and all unit offices across the country.
Placing floral wreaths at founder’s grave
BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia along with party leaders and activists would place wreaths and offer fateha at the grave of the late president Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam, founder of the BNP at 10:00am to mark the party’s founding anniversary.
The party’s district and other metropolitan city units would chalk out programs according to the local units’ convenience to observe the founding anniversary.
