(BNP Communication) — Indian high commissioner in Dhaka, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, on Tuesday evening made a courtesy call on Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia and discussed issues of mutual interests between Bangladesh and India.
The meeting was held at Begum Zia’s Gulshan office. It began at 8:00pm and lasted for about one and half hours.
After the meeting, BNP chairperson’s adviser Sabihuddin Ahmed, who was present at the meeting, told reporters that the meeting between Begum Zia and Indian envoy was merely a courtesy call.
He said the Indian diplomat came to Bangladesh sometime back but was busy with various tasks. It was the first meeting of the Indian high commissioner with the BNP chief, he added.
In reply to a question he said issues related to mutual interests between the two countries were discussed in the meeting.
When repeatedly asked if other issues including political situation of Bangladesh and extremism were discussed in the meeting, he repeated that it was a courtesy call.
The BNP leader said the Indian deputy high commissioner, first secretary political affairs and second secretary accompanied the Indian HC.
