Bangladesh Nationalist Party – BNP on Monday said the nation got frustrated at the prime minister’s claim of existing national unity against terrorism and militancy.

The party’s standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan at a news conference at its central office said, ‘When the nation was eagerly waiting for a national unity to face the disastrous events, the prime minister’s remarks frustrated them. The entire nation is angry at her.’

‘She claimed that national unity has already been forged. How come a national unity be forged keeping BNP and other patriotic parties outside the process?’ he questioned.

The BNP leader said it was not a matter of 14-party or 20-party alliance. ‘It is a national issue and it requires forging national unity incorporating all parties and opinions,’ he said.

He said ignoring other parties is nothing but government’s arrogance.

Nazrul also came down heavily on home minister Asaduzzman Khan for taking no appropriate action in time despite knowing everything of the Gulshan attack.

‘He claimed that he had information of the attack and did nothing to thwart such attack. It proves the government’s failure to face situation. If they had taken action in time, lives could be saved.’
